Soccer starts season with 11-0 victory

4 goals, 2 ast
The St. Kate's soccer team took control of their season opening game early and never looked back as they defeated Martin Luther College 11-0 to start the 2009 season.

Last years leading scorer for the Wildcats, Kelsey Nistler, wasted little time in finding her form and putting the ball into the back of the net. Nistler led the Wildcats with four goals and two assists, including two goals in the opening 7:36 of the game.

Clare Saunders nearly matched her freshman season goal total (4) in one afternoon as she picked up three goals in the Wildcats victory.

Also joining in the goal parade was junior Gina Thorwick and first-year athletes Christina Paik and Katelyn Ley. Paik scored once in each half while Ley had the first goal of her collegiate career in the 79th minute of play.

The Wildcats led 5-0 at intermission and added four goals in the opening 4:20 of the second half before cruising to the 11-0 win. On the afternoon, the Wildcats outshot the Knights 43-1 and converted 11 of their 19 shots on goal into points.

The team will resume play on Friday September 4th and Saturday September 5th when they travel to Iowa to take on Central College and Simpson College.
